Syphon

Syphon, 2019, colored pencil on dura-lar, monofilament, shelf, fabric, antique urinal, antique basin, 7’ x 4’ x 1’

Syphon is an exploration of unraveling, both of living tissue and of drawing.  The drawing is executed on dura-lar with colored pencil, giving it an etherial, translucent and floating quality.  The monofilament coming through the dura-lar appears to give the unraveling of the drawing and of the deer leg a three-dimensional presence as if it has been lifted form the page, becoming less ephemeral.  It is collected, like a liquid, in the urinal and the hospital basin as if it has been syphoned off.

Syphon is part of the Nature Is A Haunted House project.
